Eating a Thai meal in a hotel's outlet may end up with disappointment in some cases, especially in those big names in five-star hotels. We pay more, and we deserve a better treat; but usually they are pale and bland without bright ambition and effort, as mentioned in the previous post.

In theory, if a chef can do the rather complicated royal recipe khao-chae and the tidbits right, there is no reason that the chef couldn't cook a decent meal with a fine Thai twist.

It also a foodie, to eat at Smooth Curry; at first he doubted that we might enjoy a real Thai meal there, as he also lost faith in most hotel's Thai restaurants. After the meal, he booked a table for three weeks later, to sample more dishes with his friends. And he ended the 'introductory' meal with paying the bill as a gesture of thankfulness that I brought him to Smooth Curry.

ICC Cricket world cup 2011 is over. It is been more than a month, but there are some doubtful incidents happening behind the screen which could lead to a cold war between two countries. This time it was not only been as a sport but as a political game.

There were so many questions came up regarding the finals but remaining unanswered. There were rumors about Sri Lankan cricket players as they engaged themselves in match fixing as well as they were forced by political authorities to lose the finals. However, nothing was proven and Sri Lankan players and the Cricket committee refused to accept any of this alleges.

Now this subject is taking a turn towards a cold war. The ministry of cricket and sports, Sri Lanka has stated that the Indian government and the cricket council did not provide the honor to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha and the other Ministers when they went to see the cricket match finals in Mumbai, India. There were 20 ministers with including president, went to see the match. Only 10 VIP seats were given to Ministers and remaining were given a Rs 5,000 ticket and those ministers underwent security checks at every point, which was embarrassing.

However, Indian Government has stated that they did not notify the Indian cricket government about their visit as earliest. Still there is another question raised by Sri Lankan government. The Sri Lanka’s sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage is now trying to play a new political game. He requested the Sri Lankan players withdraw themselves from IPL matches and reach Colombo before 5^th of May 2011 to join England series. His motive is to threaten Indian Cricket Council and Indian Government indirectly.

But most of the Sri Lankan players who is playing in IPL are refused to withdraw themselves before 10^th of May. Some has stated that they will play until May 20. They are paid a lot by Indian cricket council to participate in IPL. Moreover, the Sri Lankan government has already given the permission to the layers to play in IPL. Now they tend to behave, as they were never known about this.

Now the Sri Lanka’s sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage announced that the Sri Lankan cricket board (SLC) allowing its players to play in the Indian Premier League until May 18. Lankan sports minister dismissed such threats and even claimed that his country didn't bow to Indian pressure. So I was asked to go check out Dragonfly which was one of the five (?) dance halls in Saint James Powerhouse Station. Each dance hall had a theme, and the one that we went to had a Cantopop theme. In between r&b and hiphop DJ spun music there were live performances by import Chinese and local artistes sing popular mandarin and Cantonese songs….and in case you were wondering, this is NOT my sort of thing and didn’t know about the venue until we were already there.
One big similarity between Singapore and Malaysian clubbing seen is that crowd control is absolutely non-existent. Learning from KY I made a quick note of alternative exit doors, just in case.
Best thing about Singapore clubbing scene is that there’s no smoking in the club. If you have to fag, you’ve got to take it outside. One thousand points for Singapore. But the good part stops there.
This is the second time I’ve been clubbing in Singapore. The first time really sucked for me and I think I’ve written about that some time back. This second time wasn’t that great either and the whole experience was quite awkward for me.
Guys were buying girls drinks (these are strangers), girls were happily accepting them and expecting more. Both guys and girl were role-playing all the time. The guys playing the male chauvinist macho man while the girls were very “manja”, feminine and act all cute-like. I never noticed this in Malaysian clubs, but it seems very evident here. And this is strictly based on the observations I made last night. Actually, I see this even in the daytime, but that’s a story for another day.
Another thing, when we go clubbing back in Malaysia we’d go in a group with a mix of boys and girls. Sometimes we don’t have a table, so we’d “tumpang” one of the group member’s friend’s table, and the whole group will join in. But here, the guys only allowed the girls to tumpang, and basically told the guys to fuck off. It’s quite sickening. After that, all the enthusiasm for clubbing in me completely went out the window. Talk about in your face biased selfishness.
Dragonfly (I keep thinking that it’s called grasshopper for some odd reason) has the tiniest dance floor ever. And this is me talking, the one who keeps bitching about how small Malaysian dance floors are. Dragonfly’s dance floor makes the smallest ones back home look like football fields.
Wait, let me tell you the most fucked up thing – do you know what Singaporeans mix their whiskey with? Believe it or not - Green tea. Green motherfucking tea. Not coke, not soda. But freaking green tea. Let me share with and assure you that this is the most foul tasting gunk ever. How to describe the taste… it tastes exactly like what you expect drain water to taste. Why the Singaporeans really love this horrible concoction will completely baffle the average human mind.

Anyone else read this particular author? His books aren't flashy or epic but they've all been particular favorites of mine. His characters are almost universally good, rational people who mean well, most of his conflicts arise due to accidents rather that Rampaging Evil, things generally work out reasonably well, and all in all his books are just solid, pleasant little books. They do not have the scale and sweep of Jordan or Martin, and they aren't as evocative as Gaiman or Mieville, but his characters are likeable, his plots solid, and his books fun little reads.

Just as one example, I just finished a book of his titled "Ithanalin's Restoration." The plot was not epic; a wizard's animation spell goes wrong, spreading his consciousness out into various items of furniture which run away and his apprentice has to recapture them all in order to restore him to life. It basically reads as a "slice of life" story line, in a fantasy setting -- the sort of event that might makes the local news in a fantasy world, but would normally happen in the "background" of other, larger-scale tales (indeed, this book is actually set concurrently with another book in the same setting, and happens in the background of that more epic story line).

Anyway, he is written several books but I have not really found anyone else who reads him; usually I find them in the dustier sections of used bookstores, and that makes me sad 'cause he is a better author than that. I think it may just be that as his stories are less flashy he doesn't get the same degree of attention other authors do.

I am sure things would have been different, had I been the head of Lehman brothers. But who wants an old conservative man like me to head a complex financial institution.

I happened to attend AOL (aka) Art of Living course two weeks back at work place.My employer had arranged for it in weekdays 5pm to 7pm. The project i was working on was in Design/Documentation phase,so i had time to take up.There was no special reason to take it up.My friend was interested to try it out,he needed company,so he called me.Also one of my previous managers had taken up this course last time around.He was one of those managers who was vibrant always with high energy levels.Also i suffered two heartbreaks in june,so I decided to take it up.

I entered the hall where it was suppose to happen.Except for my friend others were unknown.It was just a batch of mid 20s. Most of them were red tags(in my employer's terms those who work for this organization for five years get a red tag,>10 years green tag, 1-5 years blue tag).I happened even to see a General Manager of a vertical.What struck me first was the age.I wondered whether i should have taken up this course after 5 years since most the ppl were above 28+ or 30+.I was also in the software engineer hierarchy,rest of them were in Project managers,Business consultant,Pre-sales consultant,etc etc.

The course work was structured in a proper way.One of the gains must be mild yoga,sudharana kriya and pranayama.Another huge gain was meditation.My grand ma used to sit in pooja room for half an hour and do meditation at night.She used to tell me to take up meditation seriously. But i could never close my eyes for more than few mins,may be i was impatient then. Now its a diff story i must say. The course covered two types of meditation.

1) Guided Meditation.
2) Non Guided Meditation.

Guided meditation where in you tell yourself what you have to think about,some examples would be TIME TRAVEL wherein you imagine as a kid in your mom's hand,5 years..10 years (something similar to Anniyan) another is EXPANSION wherein you imagine yourself to be sky mountains etc..

Non Guided meditation is more challenging and i like this form more.You have to close you eyes and not force your mind with pre meditated thoughts.You must let all your thoughts flow may be some with hope,worries, fear everything.All you need to do is pay attention to each of those thoughts ,once you pay attention to a thought it vanishes and next one comes up after few mind your mind would go blank and thats what meditation is all about.

Its two weeks of trying meditation and mild yoga.So far very good i would say.That course also had some team building games.One was a retreat dance,another was "Tell your life story in 10 mins to three other ppl".It was interesting to tell your story to others and also listen other's story.One thing is everyone has gone through some challenging moments to be today in this position.On the final day,everyone had to bring their own food and in the end the instructor made it as buffet for everyone.

One of my team mates happened to ask me,
"Don't you know what is good for you?"
"Can't you breathe yourself?"
"Who are those ppl to tell you?"

If you think you know a lot may be this kinda course work wouldn't help you.
But if you have an open mind and you want to try out meditation and mild yoga only (for yourself) then you can give it a try.

One thing for sure is instead of spending time in gym in work outs,this kinda mild yoga and meditation would do a lot of good in my opinion.
